Australia Chapter

Maarten Tentij, President

October Event
The Australia Chapter’s October event was a presentation serving as the final session of day one at the TraceTech ID conference, a new annual conference focused on the monitoring of critical events in the supply chain. AFSMI was one of the industry bodies that were official supporters of the event. The session given by the chapter was open to all delegates at the conference, as well as to AFSMI members and supporters. Following the presentation, guests were invited to view the free exhibition and to join all conference delegates and exhibition attendees for a networking reception.

John Falconer, national IS manager for Air Liquide Healthcare (ALH), and Geoff Bowker, COO for Spectrax, presented a case study on how Spectrax designed and delivered an inventory track-and-trace solution. ALH is a subsidiary of Air Liquide, a supplier of industrial, medical, and specialty gases. Their global network encompasses 550 production plants, seven research facilities, and 28,000 employees. ALH’s expertise and skills support a wide range of large and small healthcare organizations that have exacting requirements for medical machinery and consumables.

The ALH-Spectrax Case Study
ALH needed a flexible solution giving field representatives closer interaction with corporate computer systems. In addition, ALH was in need of a real-time inventory solution. The company’s existing enterprise resource planning system was unable to control the flow of stock from multiple warehouses to the technician vans, and because of the nature of the products, each van was loaded with products that may not be used on a service call. As a medical supply company, any solution implemented by ALH needed to meet stringent statutory and regulatory compliance standards.

Spectrax implemented a mobility system that significantly reduced technician and inventory management costs and improved technician performance in the field. The solution deployed was not just technology, but included a streamlining of workforce service delivery processes. The presentation was informative and very well received, as was the overall conference.
